life is pretty sweet these days. I've been working at a French bilingual preschool here in fair Seattle. I know, it's a mouthful. It's great. I mean, kind of crazy sometimes...most of the time, but at the end of the day, I love it.
It makes me feel like I'm in France right in the middle of Seattle. We even have chickens. I guess that would only seem French to you if you've spent some time in the French countryside, but still. Sometimes I get to work, and I have to ask myself, "is that one of the Pechmagre chickens walking down the sidewalk AGAIN!." The answer is always yes. Who else lets their chickens loose in Seattle?
The Preschool is run by the Pechmagres, a family that moved here from Toulouse, France (well, near Toulouse) and things are quite frenchified. We try to speak at least 70% in French with the goal being that the little ones will learn French through immersion. And, they do! It's actually really amazing to see the progress.
And, I'm making progress too. You'd be surprised at how much french you can lose after not speaking it for a year. So, this is good. My mind is thinking in French all day. There was even a time when I got on the bus to go home and said bonsoir to the busdriver.
